Fulbright U.S. Student Program - Study/Research Awards

Description

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities for students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, creative work, and English language teaching worldwide. Applicants for research awards design their own projects and will typically work with advisers at foreign universities or other institutes of higher education. Applicants for study awards choose a graduate program they want to pursue outside of the U.S. and apply to this graduate program separately from their Fulbright application. The awards are available in approximately 140 countries and program requirements vary based on country. There are also field specific grants for the arts, business, journalism and communication, STEM, and public health. Award

Fulbright grant benefits include round-trip transportation to the host country (in nearly all cases); funding to cover room, board, and incidental costs based on the cost of living in the host country; accident and sickness health benefits; and 24/7 support line for urgent and non-urgent situations. In some countries, grants may also include: book & research allowances; mid-term enrichment activities; full or partial tuition; language study programs; and pre-departure and in-country orientations. 

Eligibility

• U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals
• Applicants must have a conferred bachelor's degree or equivalent before the start of the grant. In the creative and performing arts, four years of professional training and/or experience meets the basic eligibility requirements.
• Applicants must be in good health. Grantees will be required to submit a satisfactory Medical Certificate from a physician.
• Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country sufficient to communicate with the people and to carry out the proposed study/research. This is especially important for projects in the social sciences and the humanities.

• Academic or professional record
• Personal qualifications
• Language preparation (if program requires or recommends a certain level of language proficiency)
• Extent to which the candidate and the project will help advance the Fulbright program's mission of promoting mutual understanding between the U.S. and the partner countries
